On June 20th 2016, at Sala del Dottorato of Palazzo Murena, it took place the opening ceremony of "Atelier 2016". It was an event that has summarized the activities of "Rights and Science" - R&S, the Jean Monnet Center of Excellence, which is pursuing educational and research activities about legal, ethical, economic and social aspects of Science and Innovation, that are crucial points in the European integration process for the construction of the European Research Area.
Furthermore, R&S provides opportunities of exchange and comparison with other European and non European countries, particularly with Latin America ones.
In particular, the Atelier 2016 seminars have focused on topics such as: "The responsibility for Researchers", in order to discuss the relationship between the freedom of science and its legal limits, that have been considered in the light of respect for all fundamental rights. Other issues discussed were: "Research on Infrastructure Programs", on which intervened Keji A. Adunmo, a Policy Officer, European Commission, DG REsearch; and finally "Legal and Ethical Aspects of Research and Innovation".
The "Right & Science" Center of Excellence is funded by EACEA - Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency - European Union at the University of Perugia for the 2015-2018 period and it has its headquarters at the Department of Experimental Medicine, with a secondary office at the Institute for agricultural and Forestry systems of the Mediterranean (ISAFOM) of the National research Council.
These are scholars from prestigious universities, who have collaborated and have intervened to the training activities of Right & Science: the Tecnologico de Monterrey, Campus Ciudad de México, Universidad de Alcalá de Henares, Madrid, the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California, the University of Brighton, the Universidad de Buenos Aires, the Universidad de la Frontera, Chile, Universidad de Chile, the University of Malta, the Universidad del Norte, Colombia, the Technical University of Monaco of Bavaria, the Escuela Libre de Derecho, Mexico City, de Montfort University in Leicester, the Universidad CEU Cardenal Herrera of Valencia and the Universidad de Valencia and the Croatian JJ.Strossmayer University of Osijek.
