Andorno is Doctor of Law, Faculty of Law, University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Thesis on: “In vitro fertilization and Argentine civil law” (summa cum laude).
He is Senior Research Fellow at the School of Law of the University of Zurich (Chair in Legal Philosophy) and Researcher and Lecturer at the Institute of Bioethics of the University of Basel, Switzerland.
Since 2014, he is President of the European Society for Philosophy of Medicine and Healthcare (ESPMH).
He was Member of the UNESCO International Bioethics Committee (IBC) (from 1998 to 2005) and during the period 2004-2005 he was member of the drafting group of the UNESCO Universal Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights. In September 2008 participated to the Preparation of a report to the Council of Europe’s Steering Committee on Bioethics (CDBI): "The previously expressed wishes relating to health care. Common principles and differing rules in national legal systems". Oral presentation of the report to the plenary session of the CDBI (Strasbourg, 2 December 2008).
He is author of several books and papers concerning bioethics and legal aspects of healthcare.
